From Linda Nneji
The over three months IMSU
strike has been a source of worry to every concerned Imo person just as
many of those who never believed that IMSU will ever go on strike on
salaries-payment related issues given the much chanted "love for
Education" by the Government of Owelle Rochas Okorocha; are now clothed
with same and terribly disappointed to say the least.
The first and last excuse given by the Government for not living up to her responsibilities
in this regard is "LACK OF FUNDS". Yes and the hoodwinked lot believed
it hook, line and sinker even when all the resources that did accrue
this State and the inglorious bail-out funds have not been accounted
for.
Should we all agree with this infamous excuse, how can Mr Governor
explain the fact that IMSU is on strike for lack of funds just as so
many other sectors are in comatose for the same "lack of funds"; yet Mr
Governor before the eyes of Imo people had to embark on the most
frivolous and callous waste of tax payers resources in the name of an
unjustifiable and wanton 'reward'.
A plot of land in one of the choicest places in Owerri if liquidated
will give tens of millions plus a raw cash of 17 million and this was
used to "reward" those who have been sharing from the loot of our common
treasury? If we must reward at this 'critical time', what happened to
those Civil Servants of 20 years standing and above in various sectors
who have served this State with passion and serious dedication to duty?
Our youths are still roaming the streets unemployed thereby leading to the high increase of crimes and this amount of money can take at least 10 Imo youths off the streets and so many other crisis that this money can put an end to or at least scratch. And we ask, what is a more noble thing to do, investing in an already filled pocket just for vain glories or investing in the lives of those who truly need such help to survive?
An irresponsible Government is worse than the nine Egyptian plagues.
